Widows and single women braved pouring rain to come together in Poolabanda in September to make a collective demand for mutation of land records in their names as male members of their families register it for themselves after the death of their husbands or fathers. There are more than 200 widows in two panchayats alone. Women have obstacles to claim their legal rights due to not having death certificates of their husbands, lack of proof of identity, inaccessibility to information and stigma against women claiming entitlements.
